ICTP Training and Education

Diploma Programme

During the 2009-2010 study term, 47 students (27% women) from 23 countries participated in the Programme, including 9 young physicists from Sub-Saharan Africa who attended the one-year Diploma Programme in Basic Physics. Of the 9 who received their basic physics diploma, 6 were admitted to the regular diploma programmes (2 in CMP, and 3 in ESP). Three were admitted to an MSc. Programme at the University of Trieste (Laurea Magistralis).Since 1991, 646 students from 67 countries have participated in the Diploma Programme.

ICTP-IAEA Sandwich Training Educational Programme (STEP)
In 2010, 41 fellows (10 women) participated in the programme for a total of 49 visits.

Training and Research in Italian Laboratories Programme
Since 1983, the TRIL Programme has awarded 1,900 grants to 1,250 fellows from 87 countries. More than 400 Italian laboratories have participated in the programme. The total number of TRIL fellows present in Italy in 2010 was 96, while 54 new grants and 44 extensions to existing grants were awarded.

Associate and Federation Schemes

Since the programme's inception in 1964, about  2,500 scientists from nearly 100 developing countries have been chosen as ICTP Associates.

In 2010, 537 Associate Members were appointed (18% women). They generated 200 visits by 197 individuals.

In 2010, ICTP had a total of 114 Federation Arrangements in 33 countries. The total number of visits under the programme was 89.
