Scientific Events at ICTP

Several thousand scientists, the majority of whom come from developing countries, visit the Centre every year. In addition to the regular research activity, high-level training courses, workshops, conferences and topical meetings take place throughout the year at ICTP.

List of activites: this year, next year.

Each year, more than 50 schools, colleges, workshops and conferences are scheduled. Topics range from optics to earthquakes; complex systems to scientific e-learning; climate variability to nanotechnology; cosmology to medical physics; and radiopropagation to neurophysics. There are also a few ICTP activities taking place outside Trieste.

What's on Today
The Centre engages successfully not only in research, conferences and training activities, but also in formal and informal daily seminars aimed both at the general public and the scientific community.

The EyA (Enhance your Audience) system, developed by the Science Dissemination Unit of ICTP, is a prototype service directed to the world-wide scientific community. It archives and makes available on the web a number of synchronized multimedia presentations of talks, public lectures and seminars carried out in Trieste, as well as some ICTP Diploma Course lectures.

40th Anniversary of the ICTP (1964 - 2004)
Vision and persistence have been at the heart of the Centre's experience for the past four decades and represent the most enduring legacy that Abdus Salam has given to the institution that now bears his name. The Centre's pioneering efforts to forge strategies for the uplift of science in the South have blazed a path for scientific capacity building that other institutions and nations throughout the world have sought to follow. Equally important, ICTP created a nurturing environment for the development of a constellation of institutions in Trieste, each of which is dedicated, in part, to the promotion of science and technology in the developing world.

The Centre's scientific staff also give public lectures, largely for visitors from high-school students or for audiences assisting to round table events, etc. Also, invited world-renowned speakers are invited to deliver some public lectures at the Centre.

Call for Proposals
The ICTP welcomes proposals from the international scientific community for any of the following types of activities: Schools, Advanced Schools/Workshops, Conferences, Extended Workshops and Hosted Activities. Such programmes may receive full/partial support from ICTP, depending on the availability of funds.
