Information and Communication Technology Section
Today, the ICTP campus is fully networked. The Centre pays special attention to the computer needs of resident and visiting scientists.
The ICTS provides informatic services for the ICTP community (scientific and administrative) and for the scientific activities of ICTP. In addition, it takes care of the general IT infrastructure (network and on-line services). Most of the computers used by the scientists are PCs. They have both Windows XP and Linux installed and can be found throughout the ICTP campus. The computing resources provided include e-mail, world-wide web and other services for the purpose of enabling the scientific community to participate and fulfill the ICTP physics programme. ICTP provides a network infrastructure for the whole site, and allocates computing resources to users in the form of accounts and network connections. Visitors may bring their own equipment and connect to the ICTP network.
Security measures are implemented for ICTP as a whole and possibly for each service, and are coordinated through the ICTP computer sections.
The Information and Communication Technology Section is located on the first floor of the Enrico Fermi Building.
