Research activities hosted by the Earth System Physics section
In addition to supporting a wide range of its own research activities, the ESP section hosts the Structure and Nonlinear Dynamics of the Earth (SAND) programme. SAND's aim is to understand the physics of the solid earth, including earthquake sources, by modeling wave propagation in three-dimensionally heterogeneous, anelastic and anisotropic media and by modeling the non-linear dynamics of interacting lithosphere blocks, with the goal of earthquake prediction.
